October 29th, the Republic Day is our national holiday that is celebrated every year on October 29 in Turkey and Northern Cyprus upon official declaration of the status of Turkey as a republic by Grand National Assembly of Turkey on October 29, 1923. With a law enacted in 1925, the day of the official declaration of the status of Turkey as a Republic, i.e. October 29, was acknowledged as a national holiday. The great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of Turkish Republic, mentioned the Republic Day as the greatest national holiday on October 29, 1933 on his 10th year speech that he gave on the tenth anniversary of the Republic.
